Luton speed limit review

Luton Borough Council have reviewed speed limits on 'A' and 'B' roads and also included roads that had a speed limit of more than 30 mph.

As a result of the review and subsequent consultations, speed limits were reduced to 30 mph at the following locations:

Bramingham Road (the entire length will now be 30 mph)
Dunstable Road (from its junction with Chaul End Lane to its junction with Poynters Road)
Gypsy Lane (from its junction with Osborne Road to the Parkway roundabout)
Icknield Way (from its junction with Bramingham Road and to its junction with Barton Road)
New Bedford Road from a point just north of its junction with Fountains Road to a point north of its junction with Riddy Lane / Barnfield Avenue)

The speed limits in all of these locations were previousy 40 mph.  The changes came into force from 00:00 on Monday 16th June 2008.

The purpose of the lowered speed limit is to reduce the likelihood of accidents and improve the safety of road users. Slowing vehicles to 30 mph both makes accidents less likely to happen and hugely reduces the chances of death or serioulsy injury when they do.
