New motorcycle forum
hosted launch event
The
motorcycle fraternity have joined forces with the local authorities
in a new forum that aims to promote enjoyable riding and reduce
the casualty toll of motorcyclists in Bedfordshire and Luton.
The forum, called “Motorcycling Matters” held
a launch event on 19th June at Redborne School, Flitwick Road,
Ampthill which included a range of activities for riders of
all abilities and experience.
The
event gave motorcyclists the opportunity to ride out with
expert trainers who assessed their riding skills. The day
appealed to riders of all levels including scooter riders,
young riders who had recently passed their test or were starting
to ride more powerful bikes, as well as more experienced riders
who wanted to pick up new tips or brush up their techniques.
The
forum brings together members of the motorcycling community
– instructors, clothing and equipment retailers, bike
manufacturers as well as Bedfordshire County Council, Luton
Borough Council and Bedfordshire Police to promote a culture
of enjoyable and safe biking.
Simon
Deards, Road Safety Engineer for Bedfordshire County Council
explains the background to the group. “The aim of the
forum is to promote a collaborative approach
to improving road safety for motorcyclists. More people are
taking to the roads on two wheels either for pleasure or to
beat traffic congestion. The forum enables us to hear first-
hand rider opinions and experience of our roads, so that views
are heard and incorporated into our road safety strategy and
wider transport policy, from an engineering perspective as
well as education. The combined expertise of the members of
the forum is also invaluable in creating a joined up approach
to rider education that will help riders avoid unnecessary
risks, whilst enjoying their biking”. He adds, “A
motorcycle forum needs motorcyclists, so please get involved.
”
