Christmas is a time when people like to mix together and exude good will. Again this year that sentiment was true, with a variety of services banding together to give out the message not to drink and drive. Santa called in to take charge of the County Council’s road safety vehicle, and take part in a cavalcade of Casualty Reduction Partnership vehicles driving out of County Hall and dispersing in all directions to deliver the road safety message throughout Bedfordshire. Led by a Police car, Santa was followed by Amey and Fire and Rescue Service vehicles, and then closely by a variety of passenger transport vehicles that all carry our most vulnerable people. All vehicles displayed innovative road safety designs created to catch the eye and make people think and discuss the concept that it is socially unacceptable to drink and drive. On hand was Councillor Tom Wootton who, dressed as a School Crossing Patrol, held the traffic to allow the cavalcade to scatter and spread the message to the public.
The campaign will continue throughout 2008 with the stark message” Drive OR Drink-NOT BOTH, Nil is the magic number.
