Adult Pedestrians - Drivesafely

Adult Pedestrians

In the last three years more than a quarter of fatalities on the roads of Central Bedfordshire and Luton have been pedestrians.  In an attempt to reduce this number Central Bedfordshire Council, Luton Borough Council and Bedfordshire Police are running a pedestrian safety campaign aimed at both drivers and pedestrians.

Part one of the campaign is aimed at pedestrians.  Just under half of pedestrian casualties are caused by the pedestrian themselves.  It is often the case that they are distracted while crossing the road by any number of things such as talking to their companion, talking on a mobile phone, texting, eating, drinking, listening to music and do not STOP, LOOK and LISTEN when they are crossing the road.  This innovative campaign uses comedy game show.  The  host asks why the contestant nineteen year old Kerry was distracted and got knocked down when she was out walking?  By entering the competition you get entered into a prize draw to win £100.

From the 29th July for three weeks pedestrians will be invited by Heart FM to take part in the game show by visiting the website http://distractedwhilewalking.co.uk/

The campaign is being evaluated by the University of Bedfordshire.
